9/24/2014 3:00 PM Deception Complex Fire Update

The fire complex includes the Deception Creek, Staley, Davey, Pool Creek, Spirit Ridge and Edith fires.
The intensity of burning within fire containment lines continued to moderate Tuesday and overnight due to cooler temperatures and increasing rain. Fire spread is still limited to creeping and smoldering within containment lines.
All Divisions will continue mopping up hot spots along Deception Creek fire perimeter and suppression repair of roads and fire lines. Repair and retrieval of all water handling equipment – hoses, pumps, etc. – will continue on the Davey, Staley, Pool Creek, Edith, and Spirit Ridge Fires.
Fire activity will further decrease today with cooler temperatures and increasing rain. A chance of up to 0.5" of rain is forecast through Thursday, with cool and wet weather continuing the next several days. There is a chance of snow in the higher elevations above 6,000'.
Smoke in the communities of Westfir and Oakridge is expected to be light today and tonight due to the rain reducing the fire activity. For additional air quality information see: oregonsmoke.blogspot.com or lrapa.org
Residents and visitors will still experience fire traffic. Stay safe by driving with lights on and using caution in and around Oakridge. Roads and highways will be very slick due to the first wetting rain in months.
The public use restrictions on campfires, chainsaws and other ignition sources has been lifted.
The fire closure area has been reduced on the Umpqua National Forest side of fire complex.  See attached Closure Notice and Map.
Public use restrictions, area, road and trail closures can be viewed at: Willamette National Forest fs.usda.gov/willamette or Umpqua National Forest fs.usda.gov/umpqua
