9/15/2014 36 Pit Fire Update


The 36 Pit Fire burned actively last night.  The current size of the fire is 2300 acres.  Highway 224 remains closed to non-emergency traffic at MP 32-36. Additional road closures are still in effect for FS Roads 46 and 45. Debris from the hillside has blocked the road for a 3 mile stretch.  The fire was human caused and is under investigation. The Mt. Hood N.F. Fire Information Line is 503-668-1719. As new information comes in it will be updated. 

A Fire Area Closure was issued last night which includes roads, trails, and recreation sites along Highway 224. Please visit the Mt. Hood N. F. website's Fire Information page or Inciweb for the order and closure map. The electrical power is out at Timber Lake Job Corps and Ripplebrook. 

A Type 2 Incident Management Team will begin managing the fire at 6:00 pm today. Washington State Team 2, led by Incident Commander Bruce Holloway will be stationed at Timber Park in Estacada, OR.   The incident is under Unified Command  with representatives from BLM, ODF, USFS and the Estacada Fire District.  As of 6:00 pm tonight the following resources will be working on the fire:

7 Initial Attack Crews
5 Hot Shot Crews
1 large Type 1 Helicopter
1 medium Type 2 Helicopter
1 bulldozer
4 engines
2 Water Tenders
15 Miscellaneous Overhead management personnel

The Lazy Bend Campground remains closed as well as other recreation sites along Highway 224.  No additional evacuations have been ordered. The Silver Fox RV Park remains closed.  The Red Cross has established an evacuation center at the 1st Baptist Church of Estacada.

A Red Flag warning remains in effect for high temperatures and low relative humidity. The public is reminded to please be careful with any possible ignition source at this time.
