Firefighters continue to make good progress on the 688 acre
Weigh Station Fire. The fire is 80% contained today. Objectives for today are
to continue mop-up operations and begin rehabbing dozer lines on portions of
the fire where there is no heat. The management of the fire will transition
from the Interagency Type 3 team to a smaller Type 4 management organization on
Friday. A smaller contingent of firefighting resources will remain on scene to
mop-up and monitor for hot spots. This will be the last update for this fire.
Citizens in the area may continue to see areas of smoke in
the interior of the fire. Firefighters will be patrolling the area regularly
and extinguishing hotspots in the days to come. Travelers are encouraged to be
on the lookout for firefighting resources that remain in the area.
The fire team and local fire managers would like to take
this opportunity to thank the communities, residents and travelers in the area
for their support and patience during the fire suppression effort.
A Fire Weather Watch has been issued by the National Weather
Service for Friday afternoon through Saturday evening for the chance of dry
thunderstorms across portions of Central and Northeast Oregon and Southeast Washington.
Temperatures are expected to be in the high 80s to low 90s for this period.
The public is reminded that ODF is currently in Regulated
Use Closure in Northeast Oregon and federal lands are currently under public
