7/9/2017 Ana Fire Update

Approximately 150 firefighters responded to a wind-driven fire yesterday near Summer Lake, Ore. The Ana Fire is reported at 947 acres and is located between milepost 64 and 71 on Highway 31. South Central Oregon Fire Management Partnership (SCOFMP) deployed multiple fire resources to the incident, working throughout the night to protect structures near the Summer Lake Lodge area. A total of two structures were lost, one outbuilding and a hunting cabin. There are currently no evacuations orders in the area. The Ana Fire is burning on private land and land managed by the Fremont-Winema National Forest, Bureau of Land Management Lakeview District, and the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, Summer Lake Wildlife Area.

Firefighters are actively suppressing the Ana Fire with air tankers, helicopters, engines, dozers and hand crews. Additional fire resources are being mobilized today to strengthen the suppression efforts and enhance protective fire lines built around structures. Crews continued building fire line in steep, rocky terrain today to minimize further spread on the north and south flanks. Due to complexity of the incident, the Ana Fire has been transitioned to a Type 3 Incident Management Team.

Travelers on Highway 31 between Summer Lake and Paisley should be aware of intermittent road closures due to decreased visibility from smoke and emergency response vehicles in the area. Additional information will be disseminated as it becomes available.

The South Central Oregon Fire Management Partnership is an interagency fire management program that provides comprehensive wildland fire service to south central Oregon and northwest Nevada. The partnership strives to achieve a more efficient, effective and integrated interagency fire management program for all participating agencies on the lands administered and protected by each agency.

Participating agencies include: Fremont-Winema National Forest, Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Lakeview District, Sheldon-Hart Mountain National Wildlife Refuge Complex, Klamath Basin National Wildlife Refuge Complex, Crater Lake National Park and state lands protected by the Klamath-Lake District of the Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF).
