Kah-Nee-Ta Springs Evacuation Notice Drops to Level 2

Warm Springs OR – Tonight, Warm Springs Law Enforcement officers reduced the Kah-Nee-Ta Resort Evacuation Notice to a Level 2. To facilitate the safe passage of visitors to and from the Resort, Hwy 3 is also now open.

The Kah-Nee-Ta Resort is open to those who wish to visit the Resort. Please call ahead for Resort information at 541-553-1112.

A task force of structure engines will be on the Nena Springs Fire tonight keeping their eyes on structures and the Kah-Nee-Ta Resort. These resources include eight engines and two water tenders.  Where visibility and safety allows, firefighters will extinguish heat within 50 feet of structures.  In addition, six wildland engines and a hand crew will be holding existing containment lines and improving them where possible. All resources will be looking for opportunities to use fire to fight the fire in order to create or strengthen containment lines. They will also be patrolling the Fish and Wildlife Fish Hatchery area.

Wind and low humidity worked against firefighters today, pushing the fire to the Deschutes River.  A ¼ acre spot crossed the river, but was contained by two Bureau of Land Management engines.

The fire also spotted across the S-200 road in two places. One of those spots was 15 acres and the other was unable to be caught before it crossed the Warm Springs River. Today, 13,097 acres burned bringing the Fire's total acres to 66,003.

Evacuation Notices: Charley Canyon, Webster Flat Road, South Junction, Culpus Bridge, and Wolf Point Subdivision are at a Level 3 Evacuation Notice. The Kah-Nee-Ta Resort & Spa is at a Level 2 evacuation notice. Visitors who are in a Level 2 evacuation notice should be monitoring news reports so they can be set to go if need be.

Evacuation Center: The Red Cross established an evacuation center at the Warm Springs Community Center for residents that have been evacuated.

Road Closures: Hwy 8 to Kah-Nee-Ta Village; Webster Flat Road, and Culpus Bridge are closed to all traffic.
