Northwest Fire Potential Summary
The trough will finish moving through the region today with general onshore, west-northwest flow. There is a chance for morning showers and possibly morning to afternoon thunderstorms across far southern and southeastern Oregon today. A ridge will begin to build into the Northwest from the eastern Pacific, which will induce a general warming and drying trend. West-northwest winds will remain breezy into Wednesday, especially on the east slopes of the Cascades and around the Columbia River Gorge.

A thermal trough is expected to build into southwest Oregon, which will result in hotter, drier, and unstable conditions with offshore winds possible through mid-week. Overall, large fire potential will decrease, but holdovers and growth on existing large fires are expected, especially in wind favored areas and in Southwest Oregon. Pay close attention to your local NWS fire weather planning forecast for more details on weather that can affect firefighter safety.
