August 2, 2017          10:00 a.m.

Current Situation:
There is an Excessive Heat Warning over the Chetco Bar Fire through Friday 8 p.m., with Thursday possibly breaking 25-year heat records. There will be little relief overnight with temperatures remaining much warmer than normal. Effective August 3, 2017 at 12:01 a.m., the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest will impose public use restrictions (PURs), addressing open flames, smoking and internal combustion engines. Please go here for all forest orders including those that pertain to the Chetco Bar Fire:

The Chetco Bar Fire, located in the Kalmiopsis Wilderness on the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest, is currently at 2,907 acres. An IR (infrared) flight did not take place last night. A scouting flight today will allow for updated acreage tomorrow.

Smoke will remain in the vicinity of the Chetco Bar fire, drifting primarily to the southwest then southeast later in the day. Regional fires in S. Oregon and N. California will add to increased regional haze but impacts locally are expected to be minimal.

Fire officials ask the public to be aware of current fire conditions and to be careful with anything that could spark a fire.
