9/27/2017 Diamond Creek Fire Update

Diamond Creek Fire: Wednesday September 27, 2017 Location:  11 miles NNW of Mazama, WA                                 Total Personnel:  74 Acres:  127,607 total acres                                                       Cause:  Under Investigation Containment:  79%                                                                  Start Date:  July 23, 2017 Note:  The containment reflects the percent of operational objectives completed.   NIMO transfers command to Type 3 Incident Management Team Current Activities: At 7:00 this morning the National Incident Management Organization (NIMO) transferred command to a Type 3 Organization. The Type 3 Organization is made up of resources currently assigned on the fire, as well as local district personnel. Suppression repair of contingency line continues today with heavy equipment. Similar to yesterday, resource advisors will continue evaluation of the remaining suppression repair activities. The Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) was lifted from the fire area during yesterday’s operational period. Ground resources will continue to monitor fire activity. Various heavy equipment and overhead personnel remain assigned to the fire. Approximately 97,152 acres in the U.S. and 30,454 acres in Canada have burned. The slight change in U.S. acres burned is due to more accurate mapping.No significant growth is expected in the U.S; however, increased fire activity is still possible with the drying weather pattern. Weather:  A ridge of high pressure built over the fire yesterday; bringing rapid warm, dry conditions. Winds were generally less than 10 mph out of the south. Similar weather is expected for today, with more warming and drying expected through Thursday. Closures: AREA CLOSURE STILL IN EFFECT. Most roads on the south side of Diamond Creek Fire are now open, effective September 26, 2017. Maps have been posted to the Diamond Creek Fire InciWeb and Facebook pages. The Area Closure boundary has not changed.
