Northwest Fire Weather Summary
A major weather change is expected beginning Friday afternoon as a dry cold front moves into western Washington and then east of the Cascades overnight. This change will bring a variety of potentially serious fire weather features to the region including, increasing westerly general winds, atmospheric instability, and isolated dry-type thunderstorms. Significant temperature drops are also expected to accompany this weather change. Warming and drying will return to the region after the weekend.

Northwest Fire Potential Summary
Near record fire danger indices are expected across much of the geographic area on Friday. When the dry cold front moves in late Friday, the instability and winds will combine to create the risk of flareups of ongoing incidents, mainly in central Washington. Isolated dry-type thunderstorms will boost the risk of new large fires, again mainly in Washington but possibly sections of central and eastern Oregon as well. Check weather bulletins and warnings for local weather details. New fire risk diminishes on Sunday as the weather pattern gradually stabilizes and fire danger temporarily declines.
