Location: Two miles east of White Pass Ski Area, within the Goat Rocks Wilderness on the Naches Ranger District, 13 miles east of Packwood, WA.
Cause: Lightning

Fire Fighters Continue to Strengthen Containment Lines on the Miriam Fire
Current Activity: Fire behavior was minimal yesterday on the Miriam Fire. Crews and heavy equipment continued to strengthen and improve containment and contingency lines in several areas. The fireline from Ginnette Lake to Twin Peaks is complete and a ‘hose lay’ was installed to help firefighters hold this important north flank. Crews continued structure protection work at the White Pass Ski Area, and on the east flank mop-up continued along Forest Road (FR) 1207. Work is nearly completed on the contingency lines east of the fire.
Today the Wildland Fire Module will continue to assess suppression opportunities west and south of the Miriam Fire within the Goat Rocks Wilderness. Mop-up will continue along FR 1207 and the constructed fireline up to the Twin Peaks Fire burn scar. The work on the contingency line will continue and structure protection resources will again monitor the Clear Lake area.
On the Clear Fork Fire, helicopters were again used to box-in the fire with retardant and dropped water on the interior to prevent flare ups. This fire will be monitored closely with aerial resources today and will be kept in place with helicopter bucket drops if needed.
NW Incident Management Team (IMT) 7 will transition command of the Miriam and Clear Fork Fires to NW IMT 8 (Incident Commander – Doug Johnson) tomorrow, August 14 at 6 a.m. NW INT Team 7 would like to thank the Washington Department of Natural Resources for making several of their helicopters available for the incident. They were critical resources for implementing the strategy developed to suppress these fires.

Weather and Fire Behavior: Temperatures should be a few degrees warmer today in the mid to high 70’s with relative humidity down to 24%. Portions of the fire remain moist from Saturday’s scattered showers. By the afternoon we could see flare ups with torching on slopes, lateral spread, and the potential for rapid upslope spread. Warm and dryer conditions are expected to return on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Evacuations: Level 1, 2 and 3 evacuations in the White Pass, Rimrock Lake and Clear Lake areas have not changed. Continue to follow Yakima County OEM for specific details on evacuation information.
Closures: A Closure Area is in effect for the Miriam Fire on the Okanogan-Wenatchee and Gifford Pinchot National Forests. An Emergency Area Closure was been issued for the Clear Fork Fire on the Gifford Pinchot National Forest adjacent to the current closure area associated with the Miriam Fire.
