Northwest Fire Weather Summary
The upper level ridge continues to build today further warming and drying the region. High temperatures today and tomorrow will peak near record levels before the upper level ridge breaks down Friday as a trough moves across the region. The marine push will drop temperatures to near seasonal normal and produce sustained winds in the 20 knot realm with gusts as high as 30 knots through mountain gaps and along the Columbia Basin. While some showers could develop, there is little chance for wetting rain with this system. As the system approaches, there is a slight chance for thunderstorms along the Cascades Thursday afternoon/evening. Friday afternoon brings a chance of isolated thunderstorms to northern Washington. Cooler temperatures and relatively light winds are expected for the weekend before a moderate warming trend begins next week. See your NWS fire weather planning forecast for the details in your local area.

Northwest Fire Potential Summary
Continued heating and drying will keep the Pacific Northwest at or above normal risk for development of significant fires. General winds will remain light until the upper level ridge breaks down Friday. The transition from hot, dry and unstable conditions Thursday to dry breezy winds Friday could create critical fire weather conditions. While the chance for thunderstorms is not high, any lightning should be very efficient in starting fires in the highly available fuels.
