Crescent Mountain and Gilbert Fires (August 9, 2018 @ 9:00 a.m.)
Crescent Mountain Acres:14,593  0% contained
Personnel: 419
Location: Approximately 21 miles west of the town of Twisp
Start Date: July 28, 2018
 Cause: Lightning

Red Flag Warning in effect today for hot, dry, unstable conditions.

Current Activity: The Crescent Mountain Fire was active again yesterday, pushing west and northeast into the Lake Chelan Sawtooth Wilderness. Overnight, the Crescent Mountain Fire consumed the footprint of the Gilbert Fire, so we will be reporting one fire. Firefighters were successful yesterday in conducting a large tactical firing operation in the War Creek Ridge area which should reduce the threat of spread to the southeast. Firefighters continue working to widen existing roads utilizing heavy equipment, evaluating ingress and egress routes, and creating defensible space around homes and other structures. We are also establishing and maintaining hose lays around homes. The southern fire edge is approximately 1.7 miles (9,137 feet) from the closest structure in the Twisp River drainage.

Evacuations: The Level 2 evacuation notice area has been extended to include the entire area of Twisp River Road up canyon from Little Bridge Creek Road. Level 2 means prepare now to go immediately in the event that the evacuation level is elevated to a Level 3. With predicted weather, the fire is expected to continue to move eastward and could result in an elevation to a Level 3 for upper Twisp River residents dependent upon fire behavior and movement. Level 3 means leave the area immediately.

Closures: Twisp River Road #4400 is closed from the intersection with Buttermilk Road #43 to the terminus at Roads End Campground. On the south side of Twisp River, roads #4430, #4435, #4440 are closed from the intersection with Buttermilk Road #43 to the end at Twisp River Horse Camp. All trailheads and trails originating from these roads are closed. Travel on Thompson Ridge Road #4410 and Little Bridge Creek Road #4415 is not advised. Specific trail, road, and area closures and a closure map for the fire can be found at https://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/6093/.

Smoke: Numerous fires in the area will continue to generate heavy smoke in some areas. For more information on smoke and public health, please visit: wasmoke.blogspot.com and https://www.purpleair.com/ For smoke information in Spanish visit: https://www.doh.wa.gov/CommunityandEnvironment/AirQuality/SmokeFromFires/HumodeIncendios Despite the smoke, the towns of Twisp and Winthrop are open for business.
