FIRE UPDATE SEPTEMBER 9, 2018

Klondike Fire
Southern Area Red Team
Mike Dueitt, Incident Commander

Overview

Klondike Fire West Zone

On Sunday, higher humidity will aid firefighters in securing the line from Horse Sign Butte, west to Game Lake Peak and south to Saddle Mountain.  Firing operations will continue as weather permits. Crews will continue to mop-up and secure the fire line. The fire continues to be active in the Horse Sign, Silver, and Indigo Creek areas. If conditions are favorable, firefighters will continue tactical firing operations along Forest Service Roads 150, and 2308, near Sugar Loaf Peak. Tactical firing is an effective way to remove fuels and reduce the intensity of a wildfire.

Work to repair contingency and alternate lines that were constructed during the suppression phase continues. Repair activities include replacing damaged culverts, grading heavily used roads, removing dozer berms and constructing water bars on steep slopes. The recovery of timber damaged during suppression efforts is also ongoing. Residents are reminded to be alert for heavy equipment working in the area. Forest closures remain in place.

Road Closures

Effective September 8 at 12 noon, the Bear Camp Road was closed to all non-fire traffic from the intersection with the Merlin-Galice Road (Josephine County Road #2400 and #2401) west to the intersection with Forest Service Road 33 near Agness. The road will open when it is determined to be safe for travel.
Road 3313 in the Rogue River Siskiyou National Forest is also closed from the junction at Road 33 to the junction at Road 3680.

The evacuation level in the Agness Zone is 2 – Be Set
Firing operations are not expected to change the evacuation level for Agness.
