Northwest Activity Summary  

Scattered precipitation across the western side of the Cascade Range and in southeast Oregon. Conditions were cool across the geographic area with maximum temperatures in the 50-60s and several east side stations reporting freezing temperatures overnight. Relative humidity west of the Cascades ranged in the 50-60s while the east side reported 30-40s with good overnight recoveries across the entire area.  Winds were generally light with 20-30 mph gusts in southeast Oregon and along the southern Oregon coast. Isolated lightning in the southeast portion of the geographic area. Large fires reported minimal fire behavior and no growth.

Schneider Springs. WA-OWF-000453. IMT3. 18 mi NW of Naches, WA. Start 8/4. Full Suppression. Cause: Lightning. 107,322 acres (+0). 91% containment. Minimal fire behavior. Timber. Road, trail and area closures.  

Cougar Peak. OR-FWF-210452. ICT4. 15 mi NW of Lakeview, OR. Start 9/7. Full Suppression. Cause: Unknown. 91,810 acres (+0). 90% containment. Minimal fire behavior. Timber. Road, trail and area closures. Last report on morning brief unless significant activity occurs.  


Northwest Fire Weather Summary   

A weakening cold front is spreading light rain onto the coasts of both Oregon and Washington today, but little precipitation is expected to move far inland. Some lingering showers will continue over eastern Oregon today before fading off tonight. A stronger frontal system will hit the Washington coast Saturday evening spreading heavier rain over the entire region Saturday night and Sunday. Expect snow at higher elevations with this system. Light general winds are expected across the region today but will increase with the approach and passage of the frontal system Saturday night and Sunday. Winds will be strong east of the Cascades following the front on Sunday. Units conducting burning over the weekend should request spot forecasts and monitor forecasted winds. See local NWS fire weather forecasts for details.
