Ferguson Fire July 28, 2014 Beatty, Oregon

Bly, Oregon – The Ferguson fire, approximately 30 miles east of Klamath Falls, Oregon (five miles north of Beatty, Oregon), remains at 200 acres.

Date Started: July 25, 2014

Cause: Under Investigation

Size:  200 Acres

Containment: 75%

Injuries: 0

• Containment of The Ferguson Fire is at 75%.

• Crews will continue to reinforce the containment line up to 500 feet into the fire’s interior. The work plan today is to extinguish or remove burning material near control lines, felling snags, and trenching logs to prevent rolling, to make the fire area safe, and to reduce residual smoke.

• The conditions are very dry and volatile, and the area is expecting a shift in the weather. There will be a low front moving in making the air unstable. This could cause thunderstorms and dry lightning.
  
  

• There were various reason for the success in catching this fire and keeping it to 200 acres. From the moment the fire was spotted there were resources available or on the way. The Aircraft and ground crews hit the fire, often and hard. In the words of Operations Section Leader Rob Wood, “The multi organizational efforts allowed us to call up valuable resources. This was significant to our success.”

• The South Central Oregon Fire Management Partnership Incident Management Team 3, Leland Hunter Incident Commander, will hand back the management to the Oregon Department of Forestry Klamath-Lake District Tuesday 0700.

• Regulated Use is in effect on Oregon Department of Forestry Protected Lands and the fire danger is at extreme, you can see the definition of each on Lakeview Interagency Fire Center . Please use caution when working around dry grasses, in the forest and when recreating on our public lands.
