8/30/2014 Lost Hubcap Fire


On Friday, August 29, 2014, Oregon Department of Forestry Incident Management Team 2 (Incident Commander Chris Cline) was deployed to the Lost Hubcap Fire, burning approximately nine miles south of the community of Monument.

The Lost Hubcap Fire, reported around 1:30 p.m. on August 29th, quickly burned 1,200-1,500 acres on lands protected by ODF. That afternoon and early evening, ODF had two heavy air tankers, four single-engine air tankers, and one helicopter fighting the fire, along with six fire engines, four bulldozers, and district hand crews.

Additional resources from the South Fork Complex assisted, with the Monument and John Day Rural Fire departments protecting residences threatened by the wind-driven fire. Cause of the fire is under investigation.

ODF Team 2 (Cline)will be briefed by the local district at 0800 hours on August 30th, and assume command of the fire.
