Northwest Weather Highlights / Fire Potential:
A thermal trough will linger west of the Cascades today and early Monday but its strength is gradually diminishing. The airmass over the geographic area remains warm and dry with light general winds for most of the geographic area except for some easterly winds continuing through the Cascades in spots that are prone to east winds, including the Columbia River Gorge.On Monday there’s a risk of more instability over the Cascades and a threat of some isolated lightning over the Cascades and in southwest Oregon. With very high fire danger indices, the lightning threat could provide enough starts to boost the risk of new large fires by Monday evening. Later in the week a reversal in the weather pattern will bring much cooler temperatures and possibly rain by midweek.
