Yesterday's Operations –  With fire line completed around the entire perimeter of the 790 Fire, crews began mopping up the western side of the fire, extinguishing all smokes that could threaten the integrity of the fire line.  On the southwestern flank of the fire, mop-up progressed 30-50 feet in to the interior of the fire, while on the northwest flank hoses and sprinkler systems were installed to assist firefighters in this critical phase of their suppression operations.  The contingency line west of the Sky Lakes Wilderness was completed.  Equipment and supplies located on the eastern portion of the fire were relocated to assist in the mop-up operation or removed off the fire.

Weather and Fire Behavior – Winds have changed to an easterly flow overnight. A fire weather watch has been posted for the area for strong wind and low relative humidity effective this evening through Friday evening.  This combination is a heads up to firefighters to be aware of the potential for embers to blow across the fire line and starting spot fires.

Today's Operations – Crews will continue to hold and mop-up the western side of the fire.  A contingency group consisting of engines, a dozer and water tender will be prepositioned to assist should the fire cross the current containment lines due to the gusty east winds forecast for today.  Back haul of equipment and supplies from the spike camps and helispots on the eastern side of the fire will continue.  Some of the resources assigned to the western contingency line construction will be released.   Oregon Incident Management Team 3 (Tim Keith IC) has arrived to work with Team 2 personnel today to transition the management of the fire tomorrow morning at 6:30 a.m.

Closures – Area and trail closures remain in effect for the 790 Fire.  Details of the closures can be found at www.fs.usda.gov/rogue-siskiyou or http://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/4095.  The Pacific Crest Trail remains closed from the south boundary of Crater Lake National Park south to Highway 140. Pacific Crest Trail information is available at http://www.pcta.org/ .
The 790 Fire is located 10 miles southeast of Prospect, Oregon and 10 miles northwest of Rocky Point, Oregon.  It is burning primarily in the Sky Lakes Wilderness. The fire is being fought with the objective of immediate full suppression, using tactics suitable to management objectives in the wilderness including utilizing natural barriers and containment lines.
