07/14/2015 Wolverine Fire Update

Due to moderated temperatures and increased moisture in the area, the Level 2 evacuation notice for Holden Village and Lucerne has been reduced to Level 1 by the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office. A Level 1 evacuation notice is an alert to affected residents that there still may be fire danger in the area.

The Wolverine Fire continues to smolder in rough rocky country. Hindered by higher humidity, lower temperatures, and rough terrain dominated by avalanche chutes and cliff faces, the fire has stalled. Fire movement is not anticipated in the near term. All preparations have been completed to structures and along Holden Road should fire activity resurge, including placement of fire hoses, pumps, and building wrapping material.
Effective this afternoon, Incident Commander John Thornburg’s Incident Management Team will transfer fire responsibility back to the Forest Service’s Chelan District, who will continue to monitor the fire and make adjustments to strategy as needed. One crew and a light helicopter will remain assigned with other resources quickly available if needed.
Firefighters and managers appreciate the community goodwill and support received on this incident.
