8/29/2015 Carpenter Road Fire Update

Carpenter Road Fire Update

Today’s High Wind Warning will be in effect until 10:00 PM tonight.

A Community Meeting will be hosted tomorrow night at 6:00 pm at the Valley High School which is located at 3030 Huffman Road in Valley, WA.

Fire managers are evaluating fire progression from today’s operations. Due to lack of visibility from smoke, fire perimeters cannot be defined on the northern area of the fire. Crews continued to scout for safe opportunities to construct fire line in these areas.  As winds picked up firefighters disengaged the fire and went to their safety zones and when the winds let up worked on the control lines resumed.

Crews in the southern portion of the fire will be holding and improving the existing fire lines.  While the southwestern and western edges of the fire remains very quiet, firefighters continue to work in the area patrolling and mopping up around structures. Crews will continue to create control line just south of Springdale-Hunters Road west of Adams Mountain where the fire showed activity.  The southeastern area benefited from favorable winds as the fire blew into the already burned area.

The Carpenter Road Fire is estimated at 59,658 acres and 20% contained.  The containment decreased due to fire growth along the northern edge of the fire.

Due to the high winds and weakened trees, the public should stay out of the area during this wind event.  Hazard trees, overhead hazards, and gas and power line issues can be prevalent throughout the fire area.  In order to mitigate risks to the public and their property it is encouraged to be vigilant about personal safety.

Springdale-Hunters Road remains closed.  Please call Stevens County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) for additional information regarding road closures and evacuation notices in Stevens County.   Please call the Spokane Tribal Police for additional information on road closures and evacuation levels on the Spokane Indian Reservation.
