9/14/2015 National Creek Fire Update

  • This fire is still being managed with a full suppression strategy. Firefighters have been working for over a month to get a line around the National Creek Complex. The terrain and weather has played a large part in the long duration of the fire.
  • The temperature over the National Creek Complex is predicted to be lower and the humidity to increase. This will give the firefighters the opportunity they need, to work aggressively on suppression of the fire in the south/southeast portion of the National Creek Complex, where the line is not complete.
  • Crews working on the northern portion of the fire will be mopping up and securing lines.
  • There will be firefighters monitoring fire lines along State Hwy 230 and the North Entrance Road to Crater Lake National Park, working to extinguish any hot spot that might be detected.
  • Smoke is still dense and visitors are cautioned to use their headlights and turn air conditioners to inside airflow, when traveling through the area.
The Crater Lake National Park North Entrance road and the PCT trail remain open. However, with the increased fire activity on the southeast corner of the fire, we advise visitors to check the Crater Lake National Park web page (http://www.nps.gov/crla/index.htm) and call the fire information number (541)600-4089.
