Today’s weather is expected to be very similar to yesterday with cloudy skies and cool temperatures. Winds may be slightly stronger in the afternoon; however, fire behavior is expected to be minimal.
Excellent progress made in achieving established suppression repair objectives has resulted in declaring full containment. The list of remaining work is now very short and fire managers anticipate completion this weekend. For tracking purposes, the fire is divided into three sections—the southern flank that is within the Reservation boundary and the east and west flanks north of the boundary. Most of the eastern flank is in patrol mode with the few remaining repairs being completed today. The western flank has a few more items to finish, but is also expected to wrap up today. Heavy equipment and other resources will be shifted from those two areas to the southern flank to bolster their forces, allowing them to complete their assignments on Saturday. Some fire personnel will be contacting private landowners to assure that damage done to their land and improvements during suppression operations is appropriately repaired. Fire managers have been pleased that crews have consistently stayed ahead of the planned schedule this week.
With full containment achieved and the volume of work decreased, the local agencies are preparing to demobilize the out-of-area resources and assume responsibility for managing the fire through the end of the season.
