Morning Brief

Northwest Activity Summary

Temperatures moderated yesterday with many areas under cloudy skies with breezy to windy conditions. Widespread thunderstorm activity and lightning with scattered precipitation in eastern Washington and Oregon. Moderate initial attack yesterday with many units still looking for fires. Two new large fires reported.

Timm Ranch WA-COA-000037. 12 mi E of Bridgeport, WA. Start 6/8. Full Suppression. Cause: unknown. 500 acres. 75% containment. Grass/brush. Moderate fire behavior with wind driven runs. Increased interest/concerns due to recent fire history in the area.

0152 Akawana OD OR-955S-000152. 13 mi NE of Sisters, OR. Start 6/7. Full Suppression. Cause: lightning. 1,930 acres (+1,865). 30% containment. Timber/Brush. Active fire behavior with wind driven runs.  Structures and protected grasslands threatened. Road closures in effect.
Draw OR-FWF-000136. IMT3. 20 mi NE of Chiloquin, OR. Start: 6/5. Full Suppression. Cause: lightning. 530 acres (+0). 60% containment. Timber/brush. Moderate fire behavior with torching. Cultural resources, and commercial timber threatened.
Jenkins Reservoir OR-VAD-000024. IMT4. 15 mi N of Juntura, OR. Start 6/6. Full Suppression. Cause: lightning. 170 acres (-130). 95% containment. Grass/brush. Minimal fire behavior. Sage-grouse habitat threatened. Acres reduced due to more accurate mapping. Last report unless significant activity occurs.
Owyhee Canyon OR-VAD-000020. IMT3, 4 mi S of Rome, OR. Start 6/5. Full Suppression. Cause: lightning. 21,776 22,328 acres (-552). 100% containment. Brush/grass. Minimal fire behavior. Sage-grouse habitat and wild and scenic river threatened.Acres reduced due to more accurate mapping. Last report unless significant activity occurs.
