Northwest Activity Summary

Mild temperatures on the west side with seasonable conditions on the east side. Some lightning in the Blue Mountains and Northeast Washington with minimal light scattered precipitation. 12 new fires, the largest being 192 acres in light fuels near Ellensburg, WA. Significant containment occurred on all large fires. Firing operations nearing completion on the Sheep Springs fire on the Deschutes NF.

Sutherland Canyon WA-SPD-000121. IMT2 (Rabe). 13 mi SE of Wenatchee, WA. Start 6/26. Full Suppression. Cause: Lightning. 29,258 acres (-175). 90% containment. Grass and brush. Minimal fire behavior. Evacuations lifted. Transfer of command to local unit planned for 7/3 at 0600.

Sheep Springs OR-DEF-000341. IMT3. 17 mi. NW of Sisters, OR. Start 6/26. Full Suppression. Cause: Lightning. 696 acres (-54). 50% containment. Timber, heavy dead and down. Minimal fire behavior. Continued burn out and mop up operations planned.

Straight Hollow WA-SPD-000126. IMT2 (Rabe). 12 mi. E of Wenatchee, WA. Start 6/26. Full Suppression.  Cause: Lightning. 8,458 acres (+0). 90% containment. Grass and brush. Minimal fire behavior. Sage grouse habitat threatened. Transfer of command to local unit planned for 7/3 at 0600.

Northwest Fire Potential Summary

New large fire potential remains low today with relatively light onshore flow. Temperatures will begin to increase and RH will decrease next week as an upper level ridge builds into the region. Fire danger indices will continue rising, more rapidly east of the Cascades going through the Independence Day holiday.
