Email:  StaleyFire17@gmail.com
NW Incident Management Team (IMT) 9, Brian Goff, Incident Commander
Start date:  Aug. 9, 2017
Current Size: Staley is 2,104 acres; Tumble Bug 2 is 87 acres
Percent Containment: 56%
Location: Willamette National Forest
Cause: Lightning

Weather:  Cooler weather will blanket the region on Wednesday as a weak cold front enters from the Pacific.  No precipitation is expected, but high temperatures on the fire should be in the 70s with humidity above 25%.  Winds will increase slightly from the west and northwest bringing some relief from the smoky skies.

Fire Operations:  The cooler weather will enable firefighters to concentrate on mopping-up and securing the lines around both the Staley and Tumble Bug 2 Fires.  With prepared control lines, supported by miles of water hose, firefighters will continue to burn out and secure the northern and eastern sides of the Staley Fire.  A fire line explosives group used explosives last night to construct a line through a rough area on the northwest side of the fire.  Once this line is ready with water and hoses available, crews will begin to safely burnout one of the last pieces of open line around the Staley Fire.

Smoke Concerns:  Smoke from neighboring fires will continue to impact the area today. The onshore flow will bring westerly winds that could scour out some of the smoke in the area.  However, warmer and drier weather returns this weekend and will probably result in the return of smoky conditions.  Current and predicted smoke conditions can be found at:  http://oregonsmoke.blogspot.com/

Area and Road Closures:  A Forest Closure Order is in effect for areas around the Staley and Tumble Bug 2 Fires for firefighter and public safety.  Road and trail closure points are signed.  The Willamette National Forest website athttp://go.usa.gov/xRnz7 has details and current conditions.
