Northwest Activity Summary
The warming and drying trend in Oregon will continue today. This trend will move north into Washington. Large fires in Southwest Oregon exhibited growth through the day and into the evening. The fires that were under clear skies away from smoke layers saw the most significant growth. No lightning or precipitation within the Geographic Area. NW Team 7 (Knerr) and NW Team 8 (Johnson) prepositioned within the geographic area. There were 28 new fires for 639 acres with 6,725 acres growth on existing fires.

Northwest Fire Weather Summary
Warmer
and drier for the geographic area for the next few days with decreasing winds.
Heat advisories have been issued for sections of Oregon by the National Weather
Service. Isolated dry-type thunderstorms will creep into southern Oregon late
Sunday and linger through Tuesday while expanding north and east. Check local
NWS fire weather planning forecasts carefully for weather details and
advisories.
Northwest Fire Potential Summary
Fire
danger is at or near record values for late July with no relief in sight.
Potential for new large fires will rise as lightning strikes trigger new
ignitions on dry fuels in sections of southern Oregon late Sunday through
Tuesday. Recent experience illustrates that not many lightning strikes are
needed to initiate new fires due to the dryness. Strong general winds do not
appear to be much of a factor for fire initiation for the time being.
