Northwest Activity Summary

A consistent weather trend over several days continues. The warming and drying trend in Oregon will continue again today. This trend is continuing to move north into Washington. Smoke covered the Southwest Oregon fires through the morning and cleared out by early afternoon on several fires. As the smoke cleared large fires in Southwest Oregon exhibited more active growth through the afternoon and into the evening. Lightning entered the GACC from California again yesterday afternoon. Precipitation with the thunderstorms was negligible. NW Team 7 (Knerr) prepositioned within the Geographic Area. NW Team 8 (Johnson) mobilizing to 116 Wilson Prairie. There were 40 new fires for 3,741 acres with 15,047 acres growth on existing fires.

South Umpqua Complex. OR-UPF-000264. IMT2, NW Team 6 (Sheldon). Snowshoe is in Unified Command with ODF (Thorton). Near Tiller, OR. Start 7/15. Full Suppression. Northwest Fire Weather Summary

High pressure continues to dominate the weather over the region for continued warm, dry weather. Isolated lightning is possible again today for southern Oregon, but should stay further south than yesterday. Lightning in northern Washington is possible tomorrow and Friday as an upper level disturbance brushes past. General winds should remain fairly light for the next few days. See your NWS fire weather planning forecast for the details in your local area.

Northwest Fire Potential Summary

Fire danger is at or near record values for late July in many PSAs. Only a few lightning strikes are sufficient to boost the risk of large, costly fires. Although the threat is less than yesterday, isolated thunderstorms could create new starts in PSAs NW04, NW07 today. Lightning risk shifts to PSAs NW01, NW05 and NW08 Thursday and Friday. General winds do not appear to be a factor in initiation of new significant fires for now.
