Northwest Activity Summary

The fires in Southwest Oregon were very active through the day and into the evening. Forecasted lightning arrived in mid-afternoon and walked down the Cascades in Washington. Precipitation was negligible. The continued trend of hot and dry weather has dropped the large fuel moisture content to single digit values at 67% of the stations in the NW Geographic Area. There were 30 new fires for 370 acres with 27,260 acres of growth on existing fires.

South Umpqua Complex. OR-UPF-000264. IMT2, NW Team 6 (Sheldon). Snowshoe is in Unified Command with ODF (Thorton). Near Tiller, OR. Start 7/15. Full Suppression. Dry weather is expected to continue for the geographic area through Monday. Isolated thunderstorms are likely over sections of northern Washington but are not expected elsewhere. Northwest Fire Potential Summary

Fire danger is already very high and continues to climb over most of the region. Even moderate amounts of lightning could result in enough ignitions to elevate the risk of large, costly fires in PSAs NW01, NW05 and NW08. With humidity as low as it is and high fire danger, even moderate winds are helping to propel new fires that get started. A weather pattern shift mid-week next week looks as if it is poised to bring potential problems with more wind and instability to much of Washington and sections of central and eastern Oregon.
