9/9/2018 Crescent Mountain Fire update

CRESCENT MOUNTAIN FIRE Cooler weather reduces fire activity September 9, 2018 Crescent Mountain Fire: 49,577 acres; 39 percent contained ●  Personnel: 851 ●  Point of Origin: Approximately 21 miles west of Twisp ●  Start Date: July 29, 2018 ●  Cause: Lightning McLeod Fire: 22,661 acres; 43 percent contained ●  Personnel: 420 ●  Point of Origin: Approximately eight miles north of Mazama ●  Start Date: August 11, 2018 ●  Cause: Lightning Holman Fire: 300 acres, no containment ●  Point of Origin: Holman Peak ●  Start Date: August 17, 2018 ●  Cause: Unknown Crescent Mountain Fire: Although much of the fire perimeter along Twisp River Road and along Buttermilk Creek is in patrol and mop up status with control lines holding, there is some movement in the Spirit Mountain area west of Libby Lake. Additional containment is expected due to firing operations yesterday east of Mission Peak and with today’s planned operations. Constructed fire line south of Mission Peak to Libby Lake Trail continues to hold. Preparation of fire control lines in Libby Creek and Gold Creek drainages to Foggy Dew are nearing completion. Because of the success of suppression efforts water pumps are being removed in the Twisp River Road corridor. McLeod Fire:  The fire continues to move around in the Sunshine Creek area. To reduce movement helicopters are providing retardant support as the fire attempts to move lower into the Sunshine Creek drainage. Crews made great progress continuing line construction south of Setting Sun Mountain and the Yellow Jacket area. Control lines extending from eight mile road and along the south fire perimeter are holding well. The fire is moving around slowly in the old Whiteface Fire scar toward the perimeter and is being monitored. Suppression repair is progressing well. Holman Fire: Aerial observations showed minimal fire activity and growth. See InciWeb for area and trail closures. Evacuations: There are no evacuation levels in place. Closures: The Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest and North Cascades National Park have issued trail and area closures orders in the vicinity of all three fires. Smoke/Weather: Cooler weather is forecasted with another front moving in tonight. Temperatures will be mid 60’s and low 70’s in the valley and mid 50’s on the ridges. Light winds are expected today with increasing clouds and some higher winds southwest 5-10 and gusts to 15 on the ridges as the front arrives.
