8/10/2020 Lower Coyote Creek Fire Update

The Lower Coyote Creek Fire is located approximately four miles west of Nespelem.

The fire is very roughly sized as 4,500 acres, but this will likely change as more accurate mapping become available.

Yesterday (8/9), aircraft in tandem with ground crews worked to slow the fires progression through initial attack, working to create dozer and hand line and burnout operations. Aircraft dropped water and retardant to slow the spread of the fire. Ground crews worked through the night during initial attack.  One old cabin burned during the initial spread of the fire.

Today (8/10), aircraft continued to work with ground crews to slow progression of the fire. Additional resources are arriving to relieve the initial attack crews and continue to make progress on lining the fire. Crews will continue to construct line and conduct burnout operations throughout the night.  The NE Type 3 Incident Management Team 1 will take command of the fire at 6:00pm tonight.
