Yesterday: A community meeting was held last night at the Nile-Cliffdell FD #14. Video of that with captions will be available on the Schneider Springs Fire Facebook page by mid-day. Fire managers continued to develop a structural plan, working closely with cooperators and other public land agencies and homeowners. The eastern edge of fire along Rattlesnake Creek held well, thanks to aggressive response immediately following the fire start. Crews continued to work on contingency lines on the western flanks. Air tankers and scoopers worked on the west end of the fire to mitigate spread toward the William O. Douglas Wilderness Area and to assist ground crews. There was limited fire spread on the south side of the fire, along the 1502 Road.

Today: The southern flank of the fire has been impacted with heavy smoke, and an increase in fire behavior was reported. Due to steep and rugged terrain, predicted fire growth will be mainly north, west and south toward the William O. Douglas Wilderness Area. Crews and dozers will continue to build contingency lines where accessible, and aircraft are available to provide support once conditions improve. Smoky conditions continue throughout the valley from multiple sources in the geographic area, and residents and visitors are urged to be especially mindful of changing air and driving conditions on Highways 12 and 410, and to be aware of increased traffic from emergency responders. Winds are forecasted to return this weekend as a low-pressure system moves in Friday, potentially impacting fire behavior.

Evacuations: There have been no changes to evacuation levels, which currently stands at Level 2 (Get Set).
