Schneider Springs Fire Update
September 22, 2021
Start Date: August 4, 2021
Cause: Lightning
Size: 105,528 acres (42,705 hectares)
Percent Contained: 31%
Resources Assigned: 504 resources
Crews (9); Engines (28); Dozers (3); Air Resources (3); Other Heavy Equipment (19)

Yesterday and Overnight: Fire activity remained minimal throughout the perimeter except for the area near Cliffdell which was slightly more active. Firefighters were able to successfully contain a small spot fire near Bumping River Road identified from the previous night. The American River Lodge has been wrapped in structure protection material and will be assessed if burning operations used to increase protection measures will be conducted. Fire personnel completed the installation of new containment line from Forest Road (FR) 1709 to Bumping River. The areas south of Cliffdell along Highway (HWY) 410 to US 12 and from US 12 westward continued to be patrolled by fire personnel.

Today: A cold front is forecast for today, bringing with it higher relative humidity and stronger winds from the northwest at 5-10 mph. Firefighters continue to work with community members within the privately owned Goose Prairie area gathering the vegetation removed to create a defensible space around structures. Crews will begin mopping up where fire operations occurred yesterday. Along the rest of the fire perimeter (along HWY 410 south of Cliffdell to US  12 junction and from US 12 westward), crews will continue to monitor fire behavior as well as implement suppression repair needs such as chipping, mitigating hazards and repairing fire lines. Suppression repair on a wildfire is conducted to reduce the impacts created during firefighting operations.

Evacuations:  As of September 21 6 p.m., Yakima Valley Emergency Management updated the evacuation levels as follows: LEVEL 2: The intersection of Little Naches Road and Hwy 410 to Wash Creek and HWY 410 (both sides of the highway).
