Schneider Springs Fire Update September 23, 2021

Start Date: August 4, 2021 Cause: Lightning Size: 105,523 acres (42,705 hectares) Percent Contained: 32% Resources Assigned: 529 resources Crews (10); Engines (28); Dozers (2); Air Resources (3); Other Heavy Equipment (19) Yesterday and Overnight: Light fire activity was observed throughout the day. Crews along Bumping River Road improved protection measures around structures as well as monitored the American River Lodge. Additional work took place along the control line from Forest Road (FR) 1709 to Bumping River to further improve the line. From the areas along Highway (HWY) 410 south of Cliffdell down to the US 12 junction and US 12 junction westward, fire personnel continued to collect excess equipment no longer needed for fire suppression. Repair work on previous hazard mitigations and road disturbances resumed along the southern flank of the fire.   Today: A dry day is forecast with light winds. Repair work continues within the private community of Goose Prairie and Camp Fife. Suppression repair work consists of chipping, mitigating hazards and repairing fire lines and roads on Russel Ridge, Bethel Ridge Soup Creek and the Nile Roads. Crews will continue to utilize heavy equipment along containment lines northwest of Cliffdell. On the south side of the fire perimeter, fire personnel continue to focus on improving road systems. Firefighters will monitor areas of the fire within the wilderness. A night shift will resume with an objective to address critical needs identified by the current day shift, provide structure protection and patrol for threats.   Evacuations:  Yakima Valley Emergency Management has updated the evacuation levels as follows: LEVEL 2: The intersection of Little Naches Road and Hwy 410 to Wash Creek and HWY 410 (both sides of the highway). From the intersection of HWY 410 and Bumping River Road to Sunrise Creek. The west side of HWY 410, from the intersection of HWY 410 and Swamp Creek Road, then going south to the intersection of HWY 410 and the south end of Old River Road, to include all Old River Road (FR 1704), Lost Creek Road (FR 311), Wapiti Run Lane, Linker Lane and Fontaine Lane. WADNR managed lands outside the fire area are open. By the time a person is thirsty, they are already two to three percent dehydrated. Once this occurs, it’s difficult to make up for the lost hydration. To avoid dehydration, strive to drink 8 to 10 glasses of water each day.
