Schneider Springs Fire Update September 25, 2021

Start Date: August 4, 2021 Cause: Lightning Size: 105,933 acres (42,870 hectares) Percent Contained: 38% Resources Assigned: 452 resources Crews (10); Engines (25); Dozers (2); Air Resources (3); Other Heavy Equipment (14) Yesterday and Overnight: Continued warm and dry weather contributed to more active fire behavior. Operations managers used the favorable weather conditions to complete additional burn operations. These conditions also helped crews with on-going efforts to reinforce control lines and further increase the percentage of the fire’s containment. In the wilderness areas of the fire’s west side, there was some growth as remaining islands of fuels between burned areas were consumed. Around the communities along Bumping Lake Road, at American Ridge Ski Lodge and along the SR 410 corridor, crews continued to evaluate and reinforce structure protection measures in case they are needed. Good progress was made improving containment lines between Bumping River Road and Swamp Creek. Around Cliffdell, firefighters added hose lays to further strengthen structure protection. Along the eastern and southern edges where the fire is completely contained, crews patrolled the fire perimeter and collected equipment no longer in use while other crews repaired damage from suppression efforts and restored road systems. Overnight, firefighters carried on with mop-up and patrol along Bumping Lake Road as well as on SR 410 through Cliffdell.   Today: Warm temperatures, low humidity and light-to-moderate southwest winds are forecast for Saturday. With a turn toward fall weather predicted for Sunday and beyond, firefighters will take advantage of today’s favorable conditions to strengthen containment lines and bolster structure protection by removing unconsumed fuels with defensive burning. Crews will also increase containment line depth using heavy equipment between Bumping Lake Road and Swamp Creek, and reinforce the line along the 1706 Road near Edgar Rock. Firefighters will continue with mop-up and patrol, and backhaul of equipment is in full swing on most divisions of the fire. Suppression repair is on-going along the fire area’s south and east, and road restoration efforts will continue on the 1500 (Bethel Ridge) and 1600 (Nile) Road systems.   Evacuations:  Effective last evening at 5 p.m., Yakima Valley Office of Emergency Management (YVOEM) lifted all evacuation notices related to the Schneider Springs Fire. WADNR managed lands outside the fire area are open.
