Overview:  This will be the last update from the Sierra Front/ Nevada Type 3 IMT. Command of the Kalama Fire will be returned to the Gifford Pinchot National Forest at 0700 on Saturday October 22. Rocky Mountain Incident Management Team 3 will assume command of the Siouxon and Sunset fires on Saturday morning, October 22. Oregon Department of Forestry Incident Management Team will be assuming command of the Black Hole Fire on October 22. Future fire updates on the Kalama Fire will be posted twice a week, or as fire activity dictates, on the Kalama Fire Inciweb page (https://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/8420/) and the Gifford-Pinchot National Forest Facebook page. Updates on the Siouxon and Sunset Fires will continue to be provided daily on the Siouxon and Sunset Fire Inciweb page (https://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/8436/) and on the Gifford Pinchot National Forest Facebook page: www.facebook.com/giffordpinchot.

Fire Behavior:  Fire fighters on the Kalama fire continue working on suppression repair activities. Acreage remains at 500 acres and containment remains at 43%.  The Siouxon, Black Hole, and Sunset Fires currently have no containment and are currently at 2396 acres, 605 acres, and 277 acres respectively, with minimal growth.  Crews will continue to conduct suppression operations and assessing the need for additional resources.  There will continue to be multiple road closures in the area of the Siouxon, Black Hole, and Sunset Fires.  The public is asked to stay clear of the fire areas so firefighters can safely do their work. 

Weather: Today’s weather will be cloudy with occasional rain. Maximum temperatures around 56 degrees with light winds and humidity around 75-85%.

Evacuations: The evacuation level for the Kalama Fire remains at Level 1 “Ready” from the headwaters of the South Fork of the Toutle River to south of Merrill Lake, and from the Skamania/Cowlitz County Border west 5 miles into Cowlitz County.  All current road closures remain in effect. Level 1 “Ready” has also been ordered in the area around Chelatchie, Amboy and Yacolt.

NOTICE: This will be the last update provided by the Southeast Washington Type 3 IMT

HIGHLIGHTS:  Command will transfer to a Type 4 Team from the Washington Department of Natural Resources at 6am Saturday. No further updates available on inciweb and Facebook pages after 6pm tonight.

Hwy 2 is open but may be subject to intermittent closures and delays if debris falls onto the road. Closure information and status changes are at WSDOT  real-time travel center and by @wsdot_traffic on Twitter.

Precipitation and colder temperatures will significantly suppress fire activity. Fire crews will continue to patrol and monitor containment lines today. Precipitation over the weekend may create additional hazards associated with flash flooding, mudslides, and debris flows in the vicinity of the burn area.

Bolt Creek Fire: 14,766 acres | 51% contained | 157 personnel assigned

Containment increased to 51% and containment will continue to improve. Minimal fire activity expected to continue due to cool, moist conditions.

Murphy Lake Fire: 444 acres | 1 person assigned

Minimal fire activity over the last 24 hours. Cool, moist conditions today and through the weekend will further suppress fire activity.

Weather: Significant precipitation is forecast beginning today and continuing overnight with accumulation approaching 2 inches in the next 24 hours. Periods of precipitation are expected to continue into the middle of next week. Snow is expected above elevations of 3800 to 4200 feet.

The Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) is closed between Deception Lakes (mile 2447.5) and Hope Lake (mile 2457) due to the Murphy Lake fire. For more information: Pacific Crest Trail Association Web Page  The Surprise Lake trail that begins off of Hwy 2 and the Trap Pass Trail are also closed.

Forest Closure and Restrictions: The Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest has issued an Emergency Closure on National Forest lands. Roads, trails, and campgrounds are closed. A burn ban remains in effect.

RED FLAG WARNING: The Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning that goes into effect as of 11 am Saturday, October 15 until 5 pm Sunday, October 16. This is due to a combination of unseasonably warm temperatures, dry conditions, and average wind speeds along ridges at 15 mph. Gusts may reach 25 mph. Easterly winds will pick up Saturday morning and then peak Saturday afternoon through Sunday morning. Please monitor emergency alert notifications.  

Residents should anticipate an increase in smoke over the weekend. 

Fire Activity: An increase in fire behavior is expected today, with creeping and smoldering along the fireline. Most of the fire growth is projected on the northern edge in Division Whiskey. Where winds align, the fire is expected to burn fuels in between the fire’s edge and control lines. Some individual or group tree torching may occur. There was some single tree torching by Bluff Lake yesterday.  

Firefighting Efforts: Firefighters patrol communities closest to the fire day and night. Crews test hoses and review the coordinated response plan daily. Firefighters continue to hold all control lines, including the Three Peak Trail system. Helicopter bucket work continues to limit fire spread. Resources are advancing hazardous fuels removal along Forest Road 46.  

Weather:  Saturday and Sunday’s Red Flag warning will bring warmer temperatures. Saturday’s high is 76 degrees; Sunday’s high is 77 degrees. Humidity recovery was poor Friday night. Relative humidity may be as low as 20 on Saturday and 24 on Sunday. Saturday’s wind speeds will be 15 mph, with gusts up to 30 mph. Sunday’s average winds will be a bit slower at 10 mph, with gusts up to 20 mph. 

Evacuations: Areas northeast of Butter Creek and north of US-12, including Lower Timberline and Goat Rocks, are still at an Evacuation Level 1 (Be Ready). Upper Timberline remains at an Evacuation Level 2 (Be Set).

Overview: The Nakia Creek Fire, located 9 miles northeast of Camas WA in Clark County WA, and is burning in the Larch Block of the Yacolt Burn State Forest. The fire is at approximately 156 acres in size and is currently 10 percent contained. Reduction in acreage from Monday October 10 is due to better mapping. Additionally, the fire is still uncontained and acres may increase.

Fire Behavior: The fire is burning in slash, steep previously harvest slopes as well as in young timber stands and small pockets of mature timber. Firefighters continue to make good progress and existing containment lines held overnight. Firefighters will continue to prepare direct control lines along the flanks of the fire. Additionally, we are utilizing a combination of direct dozer and hand line along the fires edge. Fire behavior has been smoldering and creeping with some torching observed and short range spotting. The potential for fire growth remains and containment lines are being put in place.

Weather: Weather today is predicted to be dry and warm. High pressure will keep warm and dry weather through the week.

Trails: All Motorized Trails in the Yacolt Burn State Forest including the Jones Creek and Hagen Creek Trails Systems are closed. The Larch Mountain Trailhead is also closed.

Roads: Current Road closures. All roads between the L-1600 at Jones Creek ORV Trailhead and the L-1500 at Four Corners, which is the intersection with the L-1000 and L-1400.

Evacuations:   Due to fire behavior the Clark Regional Emergency Services, in co-ordination with Washington Department of Natural Resources, has issued evacuation notifications for the Nakia Creek Fire.  Please visit http://cresa911.org/blog/ for more information on those areas currently under an evacuation level notice. Currently there are no changes to the evacuation notices.

White River, Irving Peak, and Minnow Ridge Fires Update Fire Information Line: 509-557-0973 October 5, 2022  -- 4:45 p.m.

·   Acres: 12,336 ·   Personnel: 120 ·   Location: 15 miles northwest of Plain, WA ·   Start Date: August 11, 2022 ·   Estimated Completion: October 30, 2022               Fire updates will be occurring about once a week, or as conditions change.   Unseasonably warm and dry conditions, with temperatures about 10 degrees above average, have contributed to a slight increase in fire activity over the past week. As a result of the natural increase in fire activity and lack of wind, the concentration of smoke has also increased.   White River and Irving Peak Fires:  The fire continued to progress toward the FS 6500 and 311 roads on the south and east perimeters. Last week, several spot fires were located across these roads and were successfully contained by fire crews. In order to protect values at risk and prevent unwanted spread of the fire to the south and east across FS 6500 and 311 roads, firefighters implemented tactical firing operations to strengthen the containment lines. The tactical firing operation has taken several days to complete with limited daily ignitions to avoid excess smoke production. The firing operations have been successful in keeping the fire north of FS 6500 road.   A Type 3 Incident Management Team and numerous fire resources including helicopters, multiple engines, handcrews, and an Interagency Hotshot Crew remain engaged in the full suppression effort.   Operations on the Minnow Ridge Fire:  The Minnow Ridge fire has had moderate growth with the most activity on the south-southeast perimeter in the Marble Creek area. The western edge has not crossed Chickamin Creek.   Weather and Smoke Updates:  The past several days have been warm and dry, conducive to active fire conditions. Smoke from the White River, Irving Peak, and Minnow Ridge fires continues to impact local communities.
