Cause:  Lightning, July 14, 2014
Location: Boulder Creek drainage, northeast of Stehekin and west of Butte Creek, in the Stephen Mather Wilderness
Jurisdiction:  North Cascades National Park Complex, National Park Service
Size:  1700 acres
Command:  N. Rockies Wildland Fire Management Team, Diane Hutton, Incident Commander
Strategy: Point protection and modified suppression

Air operations returned in earnest yesterday, allowing transport to the higher elevations of the fire.  Near War Creek Pass, firefighters identified opportunities for direct line and suppression of hot spots.  They were also successful in installing radio equipment to improve communication between firefighters on the mountain, Stehekin, and the helibase in Winthrop.  We currently have two medium and two light helicopters supporting operations, enabling efficient movement of crews and equipment, as well as reconnaissance today by the Incident Commander, Operations Chief and the Safety Officer.

With the contingency line and fuel reduction activities in Stehekin completed, a crew of firefighters will remain there conducting work on behalf of the North Cascades National Park while continuing to be available for any suppression actions that may manifest in the coming days when fire behavior is expected to increase with the forecast hot and dry conditions.

The Lone Mountain 1 acting Incident Commander John Thompson will participate in the public meeting at 6 pm in Carlton this evening, being hosted by the Carlton Complex.  The meeting is at the RV Park -153 Roadhouse Restaurant.

The Stehekin village is open for park visitors and Rainbow Falls remains accessible, as does the lakeshore trail.  For public safety, the North Cascades National Park superintendent has closed the Boulder Creek Trail in the Stephen Mather Wilderness.  The Forest Supervisor of the Okanagan-Wenatchee National Forest has issued an area closure for public safety on National Forest Lands east of the fire area.  The trails along Chelan Lake remain open; however, area closures are in effect above the trails.  The full closure order is posted on inciweb for the Lone Mountain 1 Fire.
