The fire complex includes the Deception Creek, Staley, Davey, Pool Creek, Spirit Ridge and Edith fires. The intensity of burning within fire containment lines moderated significantly in the past 24 hours due to over 1-inch of rain across the fire area. Fire spread is still limited to creeping and smoldering within containment lines.
All Divisions will continue mopping up hot spots along Deception Creek fire perimeter and suppression repair of roads and fire lines. Repair and retrieval of all water handling equipment – hoses, pumps, etc. – will continue on the Deception Creek and Staley Fires. The safety of firefighters is the high priority today due to effects of the rain and wind – slick muddy roads and fire lines, rockfall, and falling snags.
Fire activity will further decrease today with cooler temperatures and rain showers. Cool and wet weather will be continuing the next several days.
Air quality in the communities of Westfir and Oakridge is expected to be good for the next several days due to the rain reducing fire activity. Residents and visitors will still experience fire traffic. Stay safe by driving with lights on and using caution in and around Oakridge, especially on Highway 58 west of Oakridge at forest road junctions. Roads and highways will be very slick due to the heavy rainfall in the past 24 hours.
The public use restrictions on campfires, chainsaws and other ignition sources has been lifted.
