06/11/2015 NWCC Large Fire Morning Briefing

Activity Summary

In the last 24 hours, warm to hot and dry conditions with limited lightning in the Lakeview area. One new large fire on Warm Springs Agency is estimated at 3,500 acres. Increased containment on one existing large fire (Thunder Creek). Reported initial attack activity was moderate, 40 fires for 3,832 acres. Heaviest commitments of resources were on activity in central and south central OR. Of these, most are staffed and/or lined. No prescribed fire activity reported.
 
The main new large fire threat is from high winds in the Columbia Basin and eastern Cascades. National activity remains light with no competition for resources.

Thunder Creek WA-NCP- 0000000002. ICT4. 40 mi E of Winthrop, WA. St 5/30. Full Suppression. Timber. Cause lightning. Remote and inaccessible terrain. 103 acres. 40% containment.

Northwest Weather Highlights / Fire Potential:


Generally sunny skies inland with strong westerly winds in the Columbia Basin and along the east slopes of the Cascades. Potential for large fires is highest in PSAs NW05, NW10, NW06 Thursday and Friday due to the combination of wind and fire danger indices.
