Fact Sheet August 25, 2016 – PM

This will be the last Cherry Road Fire update from Northwest Incident Management Team 8 (Team 8). Command of the fire will transfer to the Vale District, BLM Type 4 fire organization at 6 am tomorrow.  Team 8 would like to thank the public; cooperators; local; county; state and federal agencies for all the support to the firefighters and Team while suppressing the Cherry Road Fire.

Incident Management: Northwest Incident Management Team 8 (NWIMT8), Doug Johnson Incident Commander, is managing the fire. IC Johnson will transfer management of the Cherry Road Fire back to the Vale District, BLM a smaller management organization under Incident Commander, Justin Fenton.

Fire Size: 35,308 acres, the fire perimeter acres changed due to updated mapping, the fire has not grown.

Percent Contained: 95%

Structures Threatened: 0

Closures: None 

Cause: Fire started August 21, 2016.  The cause is under investigation.

Estimated Containment Date:  August 29, 2016

Resources:  Total personnel assigned 118; 2-camp crews, 2-helicopters, 6-engines, 2-dozers, 4-water tenders, 1-grader and 1-excavator.  Resources excess to operational needs are being released to assist with other incidents or return home.

Air Operations:  A temporary flight restriction (TFR) will be released tonight and lifted by FAA in the morning.

Weather:  Winds were lighter today from the northeast, temperatures reached the upper 70s, and afternoon humidity’s in the upper teens. Forecast calls for a continued warming trend into Saturday, with light winds from the northwest and temperatures in the low 80s, humidity’s 14%.

Today’s Operations: Firefighters continued to repair and rehab fire suppression effects. A rehabilitation and repair group consisting of dozers, road graders, excavator, and water tenders are planned to repair the control lines around the fire to meet Vale District’s rehabilitation standards. Patrol of control lines will occur on the ground.
