FIRE UPDATE SEPTEMBER 12, 2018

Klondike Fire
Southern Area Red Team
Mike Dueitt, Incident Commander

Overview
Klondike Fire West Zone
Increased moisture in the air is reducing fire activity, as well as ability for tactical firing.  This trend is expected to continue for most of this week. Firefighters are continuing to improve control lines and mop up hot spots close to the fire perimeter. Helicopters will be assisting with these efforts.  As incidents evolve, mapping usually becomes more precise.  Today’s map shows unburned area between Saddle Mountain and Collier Butte that was shown on prior maps as within the fire perimeter.  This change resulted in a slight adjustment to fire acreage.

Klondike Fire East Zone and Taylor Creek Fire
Fire-weakened trees continue to send debris cascading down onto roads, and crews are working to mitigate these hazard to provide safe entry when the roads are again open to the public.  Recovery of timber removed during the suppression effort is also ongoing. Suppression repair continues on containment lines on the Taylor Creek fire.  This includes repairing roads and culverts, and refurbishing dozer lines and hand lines to prevent erosion. Pockets of unburned fuel in the interior will continue to produce smoke until substantial rainfall is received.  Firefighters will continue to patrol the perimeter and address hotspots of concern.

Road Closures
Today - September 12- the Bear Camp Road will reopen for residents of Agness and permit holders who will be allowed to use Bear Camp Road (from the intersection with the Merlin-Galice Road (Josephine County Road #2400 and #2401 west to the intersection with Forest Service Road 33).  The Weather forecast indicates this will remain in effect for several days; however, unexpected fire behavior could cause a complete closing to all non-fire traffic at any time.  We appreciate the public’s patience and cooperation.  If there is unexpected fire behavior or conditions change allowing tactical firing to begin, the road will be closed to all non-fire traffic until it is safe for the public.
Road 3313 in the Rogue River Siskiyou National Forest is also closed from the junction at Road 33 to the junction at Road 3680.

Evacuation Level
The evacuation level in the Agness Zone is 2 – Be Set
Firing operations are not expected to change the evacuation level for Agness.
