Eagle Creek Fire Evening Update

Two community meetings will be held on Monday, September 11, to share information about the Eagle Creek Fire:
6 p.m. at the Edgefield Amphitheater, 2126 Halsey Street, in Troutdale and
7:00 p.m. at the Marine Park Pavilion in Cascade Locks
 
Summary:
Most of the day’s activity was concentrated on the western and eastern edges of the Eagle Creek Fire. Firefighters built direct line (line right along the black edge of the fire) to the south of Bridal Veil. Along the Interstate 84 corridor crews are engaged in mopping up existing cold firelines and burning out small pockets of fuel.
 
On the east side, work was concentrated around Cascade Locks. Crews did burnouts along the powerline corridor down to Herman Creek to establish a line of defense between the fire and residential communities in Hood River County. Oregon State Fire Marshal (OSFM) crews spent the day supporting the wildland burnout operations at Cascade Locks. Firefighter efforts were supplemented by helicopter bucket drops throughout the day. At lower elevations, the fire has burned almost to the bottom of Herman Creek. Firefighters are doubtful at this time that it will cross the creek. The upper portions of Herman Creek and most of the southern perimeter of the fire have seen little to no movement in the last two days, including the perimeter above the Bull Run Watershed. The minimal fire activity near the Pacific Crest Trail is being slowed by natural barriers on the ridgetops.
 
There is a warming and drying trend in place which is expected to continue at least through tomorrow and fire activity is expected to increase.
