9/6/2017 Nash Fire Update

As of today, approximately 100 firefighters are working on the Nash Fire, which is burning approximately 6 miles north of Elk Lake. A “spike” fire camp for firefighting personnel has been established at Wanoga Sno-Park on the Cascade Lakes Highway.
As of 6 a.m. this morning a Type 1 Incident Management Team (Southwest Team 1) under Incident Commander Bea Day is managing the approximately 5,000 acre fire.
Primary actions for the fire continue to be protecting infrastructure and resources around Elk and Hosmer Lakes and prepping line adjacent to the Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway (Forest Road 46).
Direct action on the fire continues to be hampered by the steep terrain and safety hazards for firefighters. In addition, air resource use on the fire is limited by smoke and poor visibility. As opportunities become safe for firefighters to take direct action crews will engage directly on the fire. A portable weather station has been installed in the Mirror Lakes area to assist firefighters in making firefighting and engagement decisions.
A Red Flag Warning for the zone of the fire is in effect from 3 p.m. today through 2 a.m. Friday. The Red Flag Warning is for abundant lightning and gusty outflow winds, which will also hamper direct engagement on the fire.
