Northwest Fire Potential Summary
Moderation of burning conditions, along with decreasing fire danger, will continue through the weekend as a shift in the weather pattern promotes a cooling and moistening trend. The thermal trough has moved east of the Cascades, resulting in an onshore flow for the western areas. General winds will remain westerly and the atmosphere will stabilize.

Scattered wet thunderstorms will spread northward over Oregon and Washington Thursday through Friday night. Despite the rain, lightning will ignite new starts. Due to conditions as dry as they are, there is elevated potential for new large fires because of the lightning. See your local fire weather forecast for the details on upcoming lightning. Fortunately, the downtrend in fire danger will work in the favor of initial attack firefighters.
