Northwest Activity Summary

A gradual warm up and dry conditions occurred over most of the geographic area this weekend. Gusty conditions were widespread on Sunday. The Olympic Peninsula west slopes of the Washington Cascades hung onto cloud cover to moderate temperatures and humidities. Initial attack activity remained light over the busy holiday weekend. One new large fire emerged northeast of Klamath Falls along the Sycan River.

Northwest Fire Weather Summary

Upper level high pressure continues to build over the region, continuing significant warming and drying today through mid-week. The weather will start to change as a trough of low pressure approaches the coast Wednesday, pushing the ridge to the east. Isolated thunderstorms are possible in central and eastern Oregon Wednesday afternoon and again Thursday. Winds will increase with the approaching trough, and a series of systems will keep breezy to windy conditions in the region through next weekend. Precipitation with these systems does not look too impressive at this time, with the Washington Cascades likely to see the most accumulation. Temperatures will cool to seasonal normal levels through the weekend. See your NWS forecasts for the latest local details.

Northwest Fire Potential Summary

The potential for development of significant fires remains at or below seasonal normal across the region for Memorial Day and Tuesday. After several days of hot, dry conditions the mid-week potential for windy conditions and lightning will elevate the risk of significant fires for central Oregon and central and eastern Washington into the weekend.
