CURRENT SITUATION: Rain showers and increased moisture in the atmosphere yesterday continued to moderate fire behavior. Scattered thunderstorms and lightning strikes were minimal and there were no fire starts within the vicinity of the Anthony Fire. The fire is holding within established containment lines and there has been limited fire growth in recent days. On the south edge of the fire, firefighters have constructed hand line and utilized heavy equipment to establish a direct containment line that has limited fire spread to the south. Crews continue to scout for and construct direct line while continuing to fortify and connect indirect containment line. Crews using mechanized equipment are also preparing Roads 43 and 4380 as contingency lines. Structural protection triage near the Anthony Lakes area continues.

TODAY’S ACTIVITIES: Resources today will continue taking advantage of favorable weather conditions as they work to establish and improve containment lines and limit fire spread. Along the western and northern edges of the fire, crews working in steep and remote terrain will continue direct line construction. Crews and heavy equipment will also continue preparing Forest Service Roads 43 and 4380 as contingency lines. South and west of the fire, crews will continue constructing and improving direct and indirect containment lines. Firefighters continue road preparation work on Forest Service Roads 73 (the road to Anthony Lakes) and 7312. On the south flank of the fire, directly on the fire’s edge, crews are working to mop up heat adjacent to the hand line and are laying down hose to expedite extinguishment. Night shift operations will continue, and aircraft are available to support firefighters on the ground, as needed.
WEATHER: Partly cloudy conditions with a slight chance (20%) of rain showers and thunderstorms. Gusty winds to 30 mph are possible near any storms. Maximum temperatures are forecasted to reach 73-77 degrees.
