Current Information:
A community meeting is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. today, Friday, September 1, at the Toketee Ranger Station, Highway 138 Mile Marker 60. Please note the Ranger Station can only be accessed by the public from the west due to the road closure.

California Interagency Incident Management Team, Jay Kurth, Incident Commander, assumed command of managing the complex at 6:00 a.m. today. The Umpqua North Complex consists of 15 fires which ignited after lightning moved through the area in early August. The fires will now be separated into east and west zones. The main fires are zoned as follows; Oak Knob, Brokentooth, Devils Canyon and Happy Dog south of Umpqua River/Calf Copeland are in the east zone and Ragged Ridge, Fall Creek and Happy Dog north of the Umpqua River/Calf Copeland are in the west zone.

Firefighters continue to construct indirect line utilizing road systems and natural barriers to contain fire spread. A priority remains the Highway 138 corridor and firefighters are working to protect values at risk where they can do so safely and effectively.  Values include watersheds, private property and adjoining communities, power lines, air quality, historic resources, federally protected species, and a nationally significant Scenic Byway.  Firefighters are utilizing tactical backfiring to tie the fire into Highway 138. Firefighters are working diligently to mitigate secondary fire effects such as felling hazard trees and needle cast to ensure that areas of past success do not cross containment lines.

A red flag warning is in effect for Saturday due to hot, dry conditions. Temperatures in the fire area will reach 100 degrees and remain hot and dry through the Labor Day weekend with low overnight humidity recovery. Smoke will continue to impact surrounding communities. The smoke inversion moderates fire behavior overnight, but as the day heats up the inversion lifts increasing fire behavior and in turn increasing smoke production. Evacuations:
New The evacuation level for the Side Creek area on Highway 138 East from Mile Marker 53 to Mile Marker 56 from Level 1 “Be Ready” to Level 2, “Be Set” effective at 1:00 p.m. on Aug. 31, 2017.
Level 1 Evacuation Notice “Be Ready” for the Clearwater area, along Highway 138 East from Mile Marker 56 to Mile Marker 61, the Susan Creek residential area and the BLM Susan Creek Campground, HWY 138 E from Mile Marker 28 east to the Forest Service/BLM.
Level 2 Evacuation Notice “Be Set” for Slide Creek, Dry Creek and Illahee areas and Moore Hill Lane.
Road Closures:
Highway 138 E is closed from mile markers 47 to 54 due to hazardous trees and debris falling onto the roadway as well as the possibility of increased fire activity near the road corridor.
The Umpqua National Forest remains closed in areas of the North Umpqua and Diamond Lake Ranger Districts. The North Umpqua River remains closed to boaters and anglers from Boulder Flat Raft Launch to Susan Creek Campground due to falling trees and rolling debris except for a short stretch of river near the Steamboat Inn that is open to fishing. For more information on forest closures see Public Notices at http://www.fs.usda.gov/alerts/Umpqua/alerts-notices.

Northwest Fire Potential Summary
An upper level ridge is building into the Northwest creating hot and mainly dry conditions once again.
A thermal trough over southwestern Oregon will develop northward and shift slowly eastward Friday into the weekend. This will strengthen easterly offshore flow over western portions of the Northwest and also increase instability. The winds and instability may create flare-ups for ongoing incidents over southwestern Oregon and the Cascades.
The upper level ridge remains in place into next week. Monsoonal moisture is expected to drift northward into the Northwest later Sunday into next week. This moisture will combine with the hot and unstable conditions to potentially create areas of thunderstorms, mainly over southwestern Oregon as well as along and east of the Cascades.

Evacuation Order

Following the advice of the Chetco Bar Incident Management Team, and based on the current fire behavior, the Curry County Sheriff’s Office has expanded a Level 2 Evacuation Order to include all areas along Winchuck River Road east of and include Peavine Ridge Road.   Level 2 Evacuation (Be Ready) means residents within this area should be prepared to leave at a moment’s notice. This level indicates there is significant danger to your area, and residents should either voluntarily relocate to a shelter or with family/friends outside of the affected area, or if choosing to remain, to be ready to evacuate at a moment’s notice. Residents MAY have time to gather necessary items, but doing so is at their own risk.

Brooking Police Department and the Oregon State Police are assisting the Curry County Sheriff’s Office with making notifications to all affected residents within the identified evacuation areas.

Emergency Alerts:
Displaced residents may relocate to an emergency evacuation shelter at the Curry County Fairgrounds showcase building, 29392, Ellensburg Avenue, Gold Beach, Oregon.  Travelers in campers and motels are asked to relocate elsewhere along the Oregon coast. Residents should make arrangements to move property and livestock. People with special health needs or other concerns should relocate during the warning.

Residents in Curry County who have a landline will receive emergency notifications via that number. For residents who do not have a landline, or want to receive notifications on a cell phone need to sign up for Emergency Alerts. 8/31/2017 Central OR Evening Update

COIDC Evening Update, August 31
Redmond, OR – No new fires were reported today. Air quality conditions improved throughout much of the area today, but there is still expected to be smoke impacts over the coming days due to the number of fires burning across the northwest. The weather forecast indicates that the relative humidity will drop into the single digits on Friday, and Saturday will be extremely warm and dry. Please remember that there is a complete burn ban and an Industrial Fire Precaution Level IV on federal lands in Central Oregon.

McKay Fire - Located east of Hwy 97 and north of county road 21 near McKay Butte, is 1221 acres and 50% contained. There was a spot across a containment line last night, which has been mopped up and contained. Mop up along all areas of the fire will continue tomorrow. Firefighters are requesting that the public stay out of the fire area between Forest Service roads 9735 and 9720.  There are currently 12 engines, 2 dozers, 3 IA Crews, and 3 water tenders working on this fire for a total of 119 personnel.

Nash Fire - Due to the Nash Fire burning in the Willamette National Forest, the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office has issued a Level Two evacuation notification for the Elk Lake and Hosmer Lake Areas and a Level One notification for areas surrounding Lava Lake. Currently, the Cascade Lakes Hwy, FS 46, remains open.
Level Two: Elk Lake Resort, Elk Lake Campground (CG), Point CG, Little Fawn CG, Mallard Marsh CG, Sunset View Day Use Area, Beach Day Use Area, and Quinn Meadows Horse Camp.
Level One: Lava Lake Resort, Lava Lake CG, and Little Lava Lake CG. 

Level One (pre-evacuation) means “Be Ready” for potential evacuation. Residents should be aware of the danger that exists in their area, monitor emergency services websites and local media outlets for information. Level Two evacuation means “Be Set” to evacuate. You must prepare to leave at a moment’s notice. This level indicates there is significant danger to your area. For information on these evacuation notifications, you can call the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office at 541-693-6911.

Milli Fire – Located west of Sisters is currently 22,190 acres and 44% contained. Level One and Two evacuations are still in place for residential areas outside of Sisters and a closure is in place for the area surrounding the Milli Fire.
