Northwest Fire Potential Summary

Gusty ridge and gap winds, mainly along and east of the Cascades, will persist into Thursday evening behind a departing upper level trough.  A return to hot, mainly dry, and unstable conditions is expected Friday into early next week as an upper level ridge builds back into the Northwest. Significant fire potential remains elevated in most areas and will increase to high risk due to burning conditions in Southwest and Southcentral Oregon this weekend.

8/30/2017 Jolly Mountain Fire PM Update

Jolly Mountain Fire P.M. Update   Wednesday, August 30, 2017    Start Date Cause Size Percent  Containment Crews Helicopters Engines Total Personnel 8/11 Lightning estimated 8,000 acres 0% 7 4 22 372 EVENING UPDATE Summary:  Fire activity increased significantly on the Jolly Mountain Fire today as westerly winds were stronger than predicted.  On the northeast portion of the fire, activity was minimal.  On the western perimeter, along Sasse Ridge, the fire continued to slowly back down the slope in places towards the Cle Elum River.  On the southern edge, the fire flanked across the face of the mountains.  The southeastern corner, where spot fires have been slowly growing together for the past week, was the most active.  The fire moved approximately 3 miles to the east, prompting the Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office to issue Level 3 evacuation notices for residents and recreationalists in the Teanaway River corridor.  The Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest extended its closure area all the way to Highway 97 to the east. The fire will be visible from area communities tonight.  Winds will continue late into the evening, and it will remain warm and dry.  Fire crews will be patrolling the fire throughout the night.  They will respond as necessary to protect homes and communities and limit negative impacts from the fire. Evacuations:  Don’t be scared; be prepared by remembering the five P’s for evacuations:  people (and pets), prescriptions, personal computers, photos, and papers.  Visit the Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office webpage for complete descriptions of the Level 1 (Ready), Level 2 (Set), and Level 3 (Go) evacuation notices.  An interactive map, which allows a homeowner to enter an address and see its evacuation status, is available at https://tinyurl.com/yb2wfelg.  Additionally, officers are making contact with residents to advise them of the increased evacuation levels.  Contact the Emergency Operations Center at (509) 933-8305. COIDC Evening Update, August 30

Redmond, OR – Three new fires were reported in La Pine today – all were contained quickly. Two new fires were reported on the Post-Paulina Hwy and contained at a half acre or less.

McKay Fire - Located east of Hwy 97 and north of FS 21 near McKay Butte, remains at 1219 acres and is now 50% contained. Containment lines established on the fire overnight held throughout the day today, while crews patrolled for spotfires and improved the lines. Mop up along the fire perimeter continues. Firefighters are requesting that the public stay out of the fire area between Forest Service roads 9735 and 9720.  There are currently 12 engines, 2 dozers, 2 IA Crews, and 2 water tenders working on this fire for a total of 118 personnel.

Nash Fire - Due to another day of active fire behavior on the Nash Fire burning in the Willamette National Forest, the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office has issued a Level Two (Get Set) notification for the Elk Lake and Hosmer Lake Areas and a Level One (Get Ready) for areas surrounding Lava Lake. Currently, the Cascade Lakes Hwy, FS 46, remains open.

Level Two (Get Set): Elk Lake Resort, Elk Lake Campground (CG), Point CG, Little Fawn CG, Mallard Marsh CG, Sunset View Day Use Area, Beach Day Use Area, and Quinn Meadows Horse Camp.

Level One (Get Ready): Lava Lake Resort, Lava Lake CG, and Little Lava Lake CG.  

Level One (pre-evacuation) means “Be Ready” for potential evacuation. Residents should be aware of the danger that exists in their area, monitor emergency services websites and local media outlets for information. Level Two evacuation means “Get Set” to evacuate. You must prepare to leave at a moment’s notice. This level indicates there is significant danger to your area. For information on these evacuation notifications, you can call the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office at 541-693-6911.

Milli Fire – Located west of Sisters is currently 21,703 acres and 44% contained. The fire became very active on the private land within the fire perimeter. The Southwest Incident Management Team 2 is transitioning today with the Central Oregon Type 2 IMT 8, and will transfer command of the fire Thursday afternoon. Level One and Level Two evacuations are still in place for residential areas outside of Sisters and a closure is in place for the area surrounding the Milli Fire. Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest Road, Trail and Area Closure - Chetco Bar Fire
AREA CLOSURE DESCRIPTION:

The Chetco Bar Fire Area Closure is described as being bound to the north by FSR3300, east to the junction of County Road 450, south along the Illinois River Trail (FST 1161) to the Kalmiopsis Wilderness boundary and following the Kalmiopsis Wilderness boundary south to the southernmost tip of the wilderness where it then follows Gold Beach Ranger District Boundary south to the Oregon-California border. The southern extent is bounded by the Oregon-California border to the west where it then heads north along the National Forest Boundary to the junction of FSR3300.
