New Fire Start on the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest Quickly Grows to 100 Acres
Agness, Ore—July 15, 2023 at 8:30 p.m. A new 100+ acre wildland fire start on the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest was reported at 6:00 p.m. today. Due to high winds and proximity to communities, a robust response of ground and air resources were dispatched to the incident originally reported as 20’x40’ in size. Numerous resources were available due to pre-planning and the importing of additional firefighting resources to support our local ranger districts.
The location of the “Flat” Fire is at Oak Flat, two miles SW of Agness. The fire started near the Oak Flat Campground with initial response from the Forest Service, Coos Forest Protective Association, Douglas Forest Protective Association and the Curry County Sheriff.
Initial attack firefighting resources include:
· 8 engines
· 1 initial attack hand crew
· 1 air attack (fixed wing airplane)
· 1 lead plane
· 2 single engine air tankers
· 2 medium helicopters
· 1 large helicopters
· 3 large air tankers
· 2 very large air tankers
Thanks to our partners for providing support in the initial response. The Forest Service will transition the fire to our local Type III team in the morning and a Type II Incident Management Team is on order with plans to inbrief the team at 2:00 p.m. tomorrow.
Numerous additional resources are on order and enroute. All resources on scene will continue to aggressively respond.
