Northwest Fire Potential Summary
Multiple new starts are being reported across sections of southern and central Oregon due to persistent lightning. This lightning pattern will repeat itself again today and then drift northward on Friday, bringing potentially many new fire starts into sections of western Oregon and western Washington.
With fire danger as high as it is, even wet thunderstorms can result in new fire starts and more new large fires are possible into western Oregon and Washington with the northward drift of the weather pattern. A cold front approaching the region on Sunday will bring welcome cooling to the region, but will also add stronger general winds east of the Cascades. Pay close attention to your local NWS fire weather planning forecast for more details on weather patterns that can affect firefighter safety.
