Staley Fire – August 16, 2017
Location: Willamette National
Forest, Middle Fork Ranger District, Staley Creek drainage.

2017 Size: 150 acres Containment: 0% Cause: Lighting Vegetation: Dense mixed conifer forest. Incident

Resources: 5 crews, 2 falling
teams, 8 engines, 1 water tender, 1 helicopter, and other fire personnel with a
total of 140.
Closed Roads: Forest Service Roads 2134 and 2136 are closed at
this time for firefighter and public safety. Barriers are in place.
Firefighters have made
good progress on the Staley Fire despite the steep, rough terrain and large
number of snags. Dozer line has been completed on the south side. Portions of
the northern flank has both hand and dozer line. Hand lines have been completed
on parts of the fire along a wet drainage bottom on the west flank. The Staley
Fire is exhibiting moderate fire behavior.
Values at risk in, and adjacent
to the incident include private industrial timberlands, high water quality,
Bull Trout habitat, cultural resources, and recreation sites.
Smoke will continue to
be most noticeable in the evening till morning, as smoke will pool back down in
canyons, drainages, and basins. Smoke can irritate your respiratory system and
intensify chronic heart and lung problems. If you are having health effects
